Currenly have the defence fighting style, +1 to ac making mine 17/19 with shield. I rarely get hit because its high and my fellow adventurers are a bit squishier with ac's around 14 or so. Thought it may be more paladin-y to be looking after others and use my shield to impose disadvantage onto attacks.
Dueling will pretty much lock you into a Sword and Board fightning style for the rest of the game, while with Defense you can switch if you get a cool 2hander. Dueling - if you will be using shield all the time. Defense - if you want to switch fighting styles (2h, S@B, ranged). Take defense whatever happens. Blessed warrior is nice, but sort of falls flat if you have a cleric anyway. Great weapon fighting is a bit underwhelming anyway. Protection isn’t all that great. Interception is really good for a protector character. Blind fighting is a bit niche, but can be quite strong. In that case I would want to use a one handed weapon and a shield with the fighting style that is literally called protection. That being said, best fighting style is great weapon master and smite your foes to death until they submit to your god.Just take whatever you like (and personally, i think the cantrips from that fighting style are probably much more versatile than the extra point of damage or 1 extra AC you get from the other styles). The only fighting style that is truly godlike is Archery. The next best option for a Fighting Style is Defense: +1 AC.Dueling.
