Every week I have to make a decision if I should play Solo Battles or skip them, and every week I decide I am going to "clear my cache" and try again. The funny thing, OP, was that when the Madden Content Creators were sharing MUT gameplay ahead of the game's release, there were menus on Solo Battles that suggested that the tiered points system was still going to be in effect.
